What is Innovation

If you’re an innovator in the science and/or technology field, you know how hard it is to wrestle with from banks and corporations in this day and age—everybody seems to be sitting on his or her cash until the economy recovers. It can be infuriating to know, to the core of your being, that you have an innovation that will revolutionize an industry or a way of doing things but no way to pay for the prototype or the time it will take you to bring your vision to a platform that others can handle, witness, evaluate and buy into. ( There are tons of websites that will tell you what an innovation is but the truth is, how can you fund innovation and get your hands on the newest innovations.)

At TechMoola.com, our aim is to change all that. We’ve set ourselves up as matchmakers. The concept is simple enough: Marry innovators to individual investors willing to fund the projects that will ultimately benefit them directly. Or not.

While it’s true that some investors (precious few) fund worthy projects whether or not the final product or innovation will ever benefit them in any way, most funders want to recoup some benefit as a result of funding a new method or device. Bill Gates, for example, funds hundreds of projects that will never improve his own lot in any way (except emotionally). But Bill Gates has his own philanthropy thing going. I think it’s high time for rest of us to step up to the plate and find ways, even in this crippled economy, to keep America at the forefront of innovation. If banks and corporations won’t do it, it’s up to the rest of us who stand to benefit ultimately. (What is Innovation?)

What is Innovation

TechMoola requires registered innovators to describe their vision and goals, to explain the ultimate value and application of the proposed product or idea, and to describe the “perk” or benefit that funders can expect to receive as a result of coming aboard to participate in the research and development of the innovations they decide to fund. Some innovators promise to give their funders first dibs on trying out the initial iterations (e.g., beta testing); others offer a piece of the action from future sales, etc. It is up to the innovators to decide how to thank the funders for their level of help and support. (What is innovation? )

TechMoola also registers every prospective funder. Funders are given exclusive access to the TechMoola’s list of projects which require funding and can choose the ones that most intrigue them. There is never any requirement to fund any of the projects, but all potential funders must register to participate and to read the projects. This protects the innovators from “grab and go” Looky Lou’s. Every project a prospective funder views is archived to protect the interests of the innovator against possible intellectual rights violations.

What is Innovation

Very important point: None of the projects are given the go ahead unless the total amount of the money required to fully fund them has been pledged and placed into escrow at TechMoola.  This way, there are no financial hiccups after a project gets underway.
